Job Summary:

The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and components in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical codes, safety procedures, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation:
    • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
    • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
    • Install conduits and pipes to house electrical wires and cables.
    • Install and connect electrical power to new equipment.
    • Install and configure control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
  • Maintenance & Repair:
    • Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
    • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes.
    • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
    • Ensure all work is in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
    • Conduct safety inspections of electrical systems and equipment.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
    • Document all work performed, including repairs, installations, and inspections.
  • Blueprint & Diagram Reading:
    • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams to determine wiring layouts and equipment locations.
    • Plan and execute electrical system installations based on technical specifications.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Collaborate with other tradespeople, engineers, and project managers as needed.
    • Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members regarding project status and issues.
  • Other Duties:
    • Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
    • Estimate materials and labor costs for electrical projects.
    • Keep up-to-date with new electrical technologies and industry best practices.
    • May train and supervise apprentice electricians.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma or ITI required.
    • Completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship program or equivalent vocational training.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Technical Proficiency:
    • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and components.
    • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
    • Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, circuit testers, insulation testers).
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
    • Ability to identify and resolve complex electrical issues efficiently.
  • Safety Conscious:
    • Commitment to safety and adherence to all safety protocols.
    • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures and other electrical safety practices.
  • Physical Stamina:
    • Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work in various physical positions (e.g., kneeling, bending, crouching).
    • Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Communication:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical individuals.
  • Teamwork & Independence:
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to Detail:
    • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and safety in all electrical work.
  • Customer Service (if applicable):
    • Professional demeanor and good customer service skills when interacting with clients.

Working Conditions:

  • May work indoors or outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to loud noises, dust, and electrical hazards.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting for extended periods.
  • May require travel to different job sites.
  • May involve on-call or after-hours work for emergency repairs.
